It’s Up! Here we go….
2008 May 25
Here’s the list of books I’ve read since January which I will eventually get around to reviewing. I won’t exactly be really detailed in some of them – I just might say GO READ IT or NEVER PICK THIS BOOK UP. I will figure out a rating system – and incorporate that too. It’ll be fun. Wanna tag along? Are you reading fiction books and want to offer some book reviews? Leave a comment and we can incorporate – I would love to have a few other authors on this blog! Note: some of these are actually non-fiction…
- The Memory Keeper’s Daughter
- Redeeming Love
- The Pilot’s Wife
- The Weight of Water
- Light on Snow
- The Mermaid Chair
- Song of Solomon
- The Dance of the Dissident Daughter
- The Good Mother
- Learning to be Human
- The Heart of Woman
- A Shining Affliction
- Water for Elephants
- gods Behaving Badly
- The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night
- The Lord of the Flies
- But Inside I’m Screaming
- ME & EMMA
- Everything Must Go
- the difference between you and me
- A Student of Living Things….
- Cranberry Queen
Okay, I don’t know the authors, but I definitely think you should read some Nicholas Sparks (secular author) and Francine Rivers (Christian author). I have heard good things from many people about both of these so I have read their books when I can get them at the library.
That sounded stupid. I meant I don’t know the authors of the books on your list.
LOL! You are so funny Gwendolyn! I’ve read both those authors – though not Nicholas Sparks in some time. But Francine Rivers’ book (Redeeming Love) is up there on the list!
I’m really enjoying your book blog Sarah! Once again, I’ve sat around only dreaming up the things I want to do, like a book blog, and somebody else does it first! LOL! I’m not sure what that truly says about me…either I’m so bipolar I can only dream and not create…or I just have issues about being first and if I can’t be first then what’s the point?!?! Auuuggghhh!!!
But, that isn’t really the point of this comment sooooo…
What I really wanted to comment on was that I just really enjoy your reviews. I think this may be a hidden talent you can capitalize on one day if you ever so desire or find the need to.
I’ve read some or most of all the authors you have listed. (HA…I read them in secret because the ‘christian’ circles around me weren’t interested and didn’t relate to my incessant need for fiction. I do love information as well but since old enough to read, I’ve been in love with good fiction.
Someone once said, “I don’t like fiction because it deals with things that never happened, characters who never existed, blah, blah, blah.” WHAT!?!?!? I was dumbfounded when I heard that. Sigh. Some people have really been robbed of their creative imagination. ALL fiction is based on some semblance of reality. Good grief. Fiction is an avenue by which some of us can actually deal with reality.
If I hadn’t seen the movie, “Prince of Tides”, who knows how long it would have been before I cracked enough to let someone in to help me. Well, that subject, as with so many others, is for “another blog, another time”.
OH, and I cannot fail to mention that my dearest author, Madeleine L’Engle helped me to understand the theory of relativity which I sort of understood in elementary school but couldn’t really fathom it until I was an adult reading L’Engle fiction books to my children. She also wrote two other books that impacted my life. 1) The Summer of the Great Grandmother and 2) a book about turning 50 “…a half century old” … really helped me a lot when I embarked upon that part of my life as well.
Thanks for the reviews…except…geez…my reading list is growing!!!
Someone once said, “I don’t like fiction because it deals with things that never happened, characters who never existed, blah, blah, blah.”
Mom. That was me. You can’t quote me and not remember it was me that said that!! I remember a time when you were engrossed with self-help books – How to Win Friends and Influence People stuff – so really…. don’t we all just go through phases? I did. I do. I will. Right?
By the way – there are other book review blogs that are already up. Like from professional book reviewers (is there really such a thing??). I just like to hear myself write.
There’s plenty of room on the net for more than 1 book review blog – and really – who’s gonna have the same opinion as me about the same book? There are SO many books out there – I can’t imagine there’d ever be too many review sites. You should just start one! Why not? Or you can be a guest correspondent here once in a while. Read a book, write your review, and I can post it here.
P.S. I understand the theory of relativity too – but I don’t understand one thing Madeleine L’Engle writes. I guess it’s all…relative. LOL!! I couldn’t resist that one!!
LOL! Well, all I can say is…that’s one of the reasons for having children…so they can remember all the things one forgets!
And, yes, I could write a book blog anyway…but, why should I go to the trouble when someone else has already done it? I mean, what’s the point if you can’t be first!?! get it? just kidding around…
To be first or not to be first…it’s a firstborn issue. It has nothing to do with actually DOING anything…
Oh brother…I’m just right now procrastinating actually responding to any of the job ads I just dowloaded. I’m off to water aerobics and then work.
Keep reading..you always did pick good books to share…
Oh, and yes, I was into self-help books for soooo long…can you imagine how much worse my parenting might have been if I hadn’t been seeking any help?!?!? Ugh!
And, even though I loved fiction, I was just in a different phase..yes, we all go through phases…I remember you arguing with me about that one time. I remember a time in my youth when I was determined to make my life and my children’s life much more black and white than the greys of my own family life. Then, the grays started to overtake me and I turned to self-help books to try to figure out what was wrong with me. They were appropriate for their time and still are in smaller increments.
A good balance is always desirable. Hopefully, as time goes by, one can find that balance between pushing the envelope to find new flight, but, as well, touching ground to remember it’s there.
rambling…see ya!
